Human Chain Held in Gaibandha Demanding Justice for Child Ramisa

A protest human chain was held today in Gaibandha demanding justice for the brutal murder of child Ramisa and ensuring the safety of all children across the country.

The program was jointly organized by youth organizations working for child rights in different districts of Bangladesh, including Happy Dreams Foundation, Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation, AYAS Bangladesh, Betna Youth Development Organization, Youth Mentor Group, and one of the country’s leading child organizations, the National Children’s Task Force (NCTF).

The human chain took place on Saturday (23 May 2026) at 11:00 AM in front of the Office of the Superintendent of Police in Gaibandha.

More than three hundred students and teachers from Newton Preparatory School, along with representatives of various social and voluntary organizations and conscious citizens, participated in the program. The area echoed with slogans demanding children’s safety, speedy justice for rapists and murderers, and the highest punishment for the perpetrators.

The demonstration was organized in protest against the horrific torture, rape, and brutal throat-slitting murder of eight-year-old second-grade student Ramisa Akter in Pallabi, Mirpur, Dhaka. Speakers at the event expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of child rape, abuse, and murder across the country.

Among those present were Sukomal Chandra Sarkar, Principal of Newton Preparatory School; Krishna Chandra Sarkar, Assistant Head Teacher; Md. Mehedi Hasan, President of Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation; Rakibul Hasan, President of NCTF Gaibandha; and Mashiyur Rahman, member of Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation, along with leaders from various organizations.

In his speech, Principal Sukomal Chandra Sarkar said: “Today, our children are not safe anywhere. Ensuring a safe environment for children is a shared responsibility of families, society, and the state. We must build a social movement against violence and abuse towards children. Those who destroy children’s lives must face speedy justice and exemplary punishment.”

Md. Mehedi Hasan, President of Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation, said: “Such brutality against an innocent child like Ramisa can never be accepted. Continuous incidents of child rape, abuse, and murder have shaken our conscience. Laws alone are not enough; families and society must become more aware. There is no alternative to building social resistance to ensure children’s safety.”

Students participating in the human chain also called for a strong stand against child abuse. One student said: “We want a safe Bangladesh. We do not want any more children to become victims of brutality like Ramisa.”

Another student added: “Families, teachers, and the administration must work together to ensure children’s safety. Speedy justice for offenders must be ensured.”

Speakers highlighted the alarming picture of recent child abuse in the country. According to data from the National Human Rights Commission, Human Rights Solidarity Network, and Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), at least 312 children became victims of various forms of violence and abuse between February and April this year. Among them, 143 children were victims of sexual harassment and rape, while 18 children were brutally murdered after rape.

The speakers also stated that rising drug addiction, moral degradation, and a culture of impunity are contributing to increased violence against children. They emphasized the importance of raising family awareness, teaching children about good touch and bad touch, activating anti-sexual harassment committees in educational institutions, and increasing awareness about emergency helplines 1098 and 999.

At the end of the human chain, the speakers demanded that those involved in the murder of Ramisa and all child rape and murder cases be brought under speedy trial tribunals and given the highest punishment.

গাইবান্ধায় শিশু রামিসা হত্যার বিচার দাবিতে মানববন্ধন অনুষ্ঠিত

শিশু রামিসা হত্যার বিচার ও দেশের সকল শিশুদের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করার দাবিতে আজ গাইবান্ধায় অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে এক প্রতিবাদী মানববন্ধন।

দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলায় শিশু অধিকার নিয়ে কাজ করা যুব সংগঠন হ্যাপি ড্রিমস ফাউন্ডেশন, সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশন, আয়াস বাংলাদেশ, বেতনা যুব উন্নয়ন সংস্থা, ইয়ুথ মেন্টর গ্রুপ এবং দেশের অন্যতম শিশু সংগঠন ‘ন্যাশনাল চিলড্রেন’স টাস্কফোর্স’ (এনসিটিএফ)-এর যৌথ আয়োজনে শনিবার (২৩ মে ২০২৬) সকাল ১১টায় গাইবান্ধা পুলিশ সুপারের কার্যালয়ের সামনে এই মানববন্ধন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

মানববন্ধনে অংশ নেয় নিউটন প্রিপারেটরী স্কুলের তিন শতাধিক শিক্ষার্থী, শিক্ষক, বিভিন্ন সামাজিক ও স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠনের প্রতিনিধি এবং সচেতন নাগরিকরা। পুরো কর্মসূচি জুড়ে শিশুদের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিতকরণ, ধর্ষক ও হত্যাকারীদের দ্রুত বিচার এবং সর্বোচ্চ শাস্তির দাবিতে বিভিন্ন স্লোগানে মুখরিত হয়ে ওঠে পুরো এলাকা।

রাজধানীর মিরপুরের পল্লবীতে দ্বিতীয় শ্রেণির শিক্ষার্থী, মাত্র আট বছর বয়সী নিষ্পাপ শিশু রামিসা আক্তারকে পাশবিক নির্যাতন, ধর্ষণ ও নৃশংসভাবে গলা কেটে হত্যার ঘটনার প্রতিবাদে আয়োজিত এ কর্মসূচিতে বক্তারা সারাদেশে ক্রমবর্ধমান শিশু ধর্ষণ, নির্যাতন ও হত্যার ঘটনায় গভীর উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করেন।

মানববন্ধনে উপস্থিত ছিলেন নিউটন প্রিপারেটরী স্কুলের অধ্যক্ষ সুকমল চন্দ্র সরকার, সহকারী প্রধান শিক্ষক কৃষ্ণচন্দ্র সরকার, সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশনের সভাপতি মোঃ মেহেদী হাসান, ‘ন্যাশনাল চিলড্রেন’স টাস্কফোর্স’ (এনসিটিএফ) গাইবান্ধার সভাপতি রাকিবুল হাসান, সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশনের সদস্য মশিউর রহমানসহ বিভিন্ন সংগঠনের নেতৃবৃন্দ।

বক্তব্যে নিউটন প্রিপারেটরী স্কুলের অধ্যক্ষ সুকমল চন্দ্র সরকার বলেন, “আজ আমাদের শিশুরা কোথাও নিরাপদ নয়। পরিবার, সমাজ ও রাষ্ট্র সবার সম্মিলিত দায়িত্ব শিশুদের জন্য একটি নিরাপদ পরিবেশ নিশ্চিত করা। শিশুদের প্রতি সহিংসতা ও নির্যাতনের বিরুদ্ধে সামাজিক আন্দোলন গড়ে তুলতে হবে। যারা শিশুদের জীবন ধ্বংস করছে, তাদের দ্রুত বিচার ও দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি নিশ্চিত করতে হবে।”

সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশনের সভাপতি মোঃ মেহেদী হাসান বলেন, “শিশু রামিসার মতো নিষ্পাপ শিশুর ওপর এমন বর্বরতা কোনোভাবেই মেনে নেওয়া যায় না। দেশে একের পর এক শিশু ধর্ষণ, নির্যাতন ও হত্যার ঘটনা আমাদের বিবেককে নাড়িয়ে দিয়েছে। শুধু আইন করলেই হবে না, পরিবার ও সমাজকে আরও সচেতন হতে হবে। শিশুদের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করতে সামাজিক প্রতিরোধ গড়ে তোলার বিকল্প নেই।”

মানববন্ধনে অংশ নেওয়া শিক্ষার্থীরাও শিশু নির্যাতনের বিরুদ্ধে কঠোর অবস্থান নেওয়ার আহ্বান জানায়। এক শিক্ষার্থী বলে, “আমরা নিরাপদ বাংলাদেশ চাই। আমরা চাই না আর কোনো শিশু রামিসার মতো নির্মমতার শিকার হোক।”

আরেক শিক্ষার্থী তার বক্তব্যে জানায়, “শিশুদের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করতে পরিবার, শিক্ষক ও প্রশাসনকে একসাথে কাজ করতে হবে। অপরাধীদের দ্রুত বিচার নিশ্চিত করতে হবে।”

বক্তারা দেশের সাম্প্রতিক শিশু নির্যাতনের ভয়াবহ চিত্র তুলে ধরে বলেন, জাতীয় মানবাধিকার কমিশন, মানবাধিকার সলিডারিটি নেটওয়ার্ক এবং আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্রের তথ্যমতে চলতি বছরের ফেব্রুয়ারি থেকে এপ্রিল পর্যন্ত মাত্র তিন মাসে দেশে অন্তত ৩১২ জন শিশু বিভিন্ন সহিংসতা ও নির্যাতনের শিকার হয়েছে। এর মধ্যে ১৪৩ জন শিশু যৌন নিপীড়ন ও ধর্ষণের শিকার এবং ধর্ষণের পর ১৮ জন শিশুকে নির্মমভাবে হত্যা করা হয়েছে।

তারা আরও বলেন, সমাজজুড়ে মাদকাসক্তি, নৈতিক অবক্ষয় ও বিচারহীনতার সংস্কৃতির কারণে শিশুদের ওপর সহিংসতা বাড়ছে। শিশুদের সুরক্ষায় পরিবারে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি, গুড টাচ ও ব্যাড টাচ বিষয়ে শিশুদের ধারণা দেওয়া, শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে যৌন হয়রানি প্রতিরোধ কমিটি সক্রিয় করা এবং শিশুদের জরুরি হেল্পলাইন ১০৯৮ ও ৯৯৯ সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা বাড়ানোর ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করা হয়।

মানববন্ধন শেষে বক্তারা শিশু রামিসা হত্যাসহ সকল শিশু ধর্ষণ ও হত্যার ঘটনায় জড়িতদের দ্রুত বিচার ট্রাইব্যুনালের আওতায় এনে সর্বোচ্চ শাস্তি নিশ্চিত করার জোর দাবি জানান।
