Standing Beside the Cold-Stricken People of Fulchhari, Gaibandha: “Ushnota 2026”

Today, on 11 January 2026, a winter relief distribution program was carried out in Gaibandha district with the humanitarian objective of alleviating the suffering of people affected by severe cold. The program titled “Ushnota 2026” was implemented through a joint initiative of Action for Balance on Climate and Dignity (ABCD), RHSTEP, and Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation.

On this occasion, 50 blankets and clothes for 60 people were distributed among cold-affected communities in Uttor Udia and Gunbhari areas of Fulchhari Upazila in Gaibandha district. The beneficiaries of the winter relief included children, adolescents, persons with disabilities, and elderly women and men, who are among the most vulnerable during extreme winter conditions.

Those present at the distribution program included Md. Mehedi Hasan, President of Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation; Youth Leader Mosaddeq Sarkar Muhit; Jannatul Minjia Tuli, Md. Rafiuzzaman, Mrittika Sarkar Arpa, Jahid Hasan, along with other members of the organization. Also present were Md. Tajbiul Islam, Youth Officer of RHSTEP Alor Dhara Pathshala, Gaibandha Center; Field Motivator Anu Khatun; Youth Advocates Abubakkar Siddik, Rakibul Islam, Abu Muslim, and others.

After receiving the winter clothes, beneficiaries shared their feelings. Mochi Begum (57) said, “For poor people like us, it is very difficult to get a blanket in this bitter cold. The blanket I received today will help me a lot. I pray for those who thought of us.”
On the other hand, Selim Parvez (16) said, “It was very hard to study during winter because of the cold. After receiving this blanket, I won’t have to shiver at night anymore. Many thanks to everyone for standing beside us.”

Regarding the initiative, Md. Mehedi Hasan, President of Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation, stated, “Winter is not just a matter of weather; it is a major crisis for poor and marginalized people. Through the ‘Ushnota 2026’ program, we have tried to stand beside vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.”

He further added that the combined impact of climate change and poverty is making people’s lives increasingly difficult, and therefore, it is essential to expand collective initiatives and humanitarian support activities to stand beside the helpless members of society.


গাইবান্ধা ফুলছড়ির শীতার্ত মানুষের পাশে ‘উষ্ণতা ২০২৬’

আজ ১১ জানুয়ারি ২০২৬ শীতার্ত মানুষের কষ্ট লাঘবের মানবিক লক্ষ্য নিয়ে গাইবান্ধা জেলায় শীতবস্ত্র বিতরণ কার্যক্রম পরিচালিত হয়েছে। অ্যাকশন ফর ব্যালেন্স অন ক্লাইমেট অ্যান্ড ডিগনিটি (এবিসিডি), আরএইচস্টেপ ও সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশন -এর যৌথ উদ্যোগে “উষ্ণতা ২০২৬” শীর্ষক এই কর্মসূচি বাস্তবায়ন করা হয়।

এ উপলক্ষে গাইবান্ধা জেলার ফুলছড়ি উপজেলার উত্তর উড়িয়া ও গুনভরি এলাকায় শীতার্ত মানুষের মাঝে ৫০টি কম্বল এবং ৬০ জনের জন্য কাপড় বিতরণ করা হয়। শীতবস্ত্র বিতরণ কার্যক্রমে উপকৃত হন শিশু, কিশোর-কিশোরী, প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তি এবং বয়স্ক নারী-পুরুষ যারা তীব্র শীতে সবচেয়ে বেশি ঝুঁকিতে থাকেন।

কার্যক্রমে উপস্থিত ছিলেন সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশনের সভাপতি মোঃ মেহেদী হাসান, ইয়ুথ লিডার মোছাদ্দেক সরকার মুহিত, জান্নাতুল মিনজিয়া তুলি, মো. রাফিউজ্জামান, মৃত্তিকা সরকার অর্পা, জাহিদ হাসানসহ সংগঠনের অন্যান্য সদস্যরা। আরো উপস্থিত ছিলেন আরএইচস্টেপ আলোর ধারা পাঠশালা, গাইবান্ধা কেন্দ্রের ইয়ুথ অফিসার মোঃ তাজবিউল ইসলাম, ফিল্ড মোটিভেটর অনু খাতুন, ইয়ুথ এডভোকেট আবুবক্কর সিদ্দিক, রাকিবুল ইসলাম, আবু মুসলিম প্রমুখ।

শীতবস্ত্র পেয়ে উপকারভোগীরা তাঁদের অনুভূতি প্রকাশ করেন। মছি বেগম (৫৭) বলেন, “এই কনকনে শীতে আমাদের মতো গরিব মানুষের জন্য কম্বল পাওয়া খুব কষ্টের। আজ যে কম্বলটা পেলাম, এতে আমার অনেক উপকার হবে। যারা আমাদের কথা ভেবেছেন, তাদের জন্য দোয়া করি।”

অন্যদিকে সেলিম পারভেজ (১৬) বলেন, “শীতে পড়াশোনা করতে খুব কষ্ট হতো। এই কম্বল পেয়ে এখন রাতে আর ঠান্ডায় কাঁপতে হবে না। আমাদের পাশে দাঁড়ানোর জন্য সবাইকে অনেক ধন্যবাদ।”

কর্মসূচি সম্পর্কে সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশনের সভাপতি মোঃ মেহেদী হাসান বলেন, “শীত শুধু আবহাওয়ার বিষয় নয়, এটি দরিদ্র ও প্রান্তিক মানুষের জন্য একটি বড় সংকট। ‘উষ্ণতা ২০২৬’ কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে আমরা শিশু, বয়স্ক ও প্রতিবন্ধীসহ ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ মানুষদের পাশে দাঁড়ানোর চেষ্টা করেছি।”

তিনি আরও বলেন, জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের প্রভাব ও দারিদ্র্য একসঙ্গে মানুষের জীবনকে কঠিন করে তুলছে। তাই সমাজের অসহায় মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়াতে সম্মিলিত উদ্যোগ ও মানবিক সহায়তা কার্যক্রম আরও বিস্তৃত করা জরুরি।
