Srijonshil Gaibandha Receives Youth Climate Small Grant Award 2025

On the occasion of International Volunteer Day 2025, the voluntary youth organization Srijonshil Gaibandha from Gaibandha received special recognition at the Youth Climate Small Grant Award 2025 during the National Volunteer Conference, held on 8 December at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the University of Dhaka. The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) of the University of Dhaka and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) Bangladesh.

The conference was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka. Distinguished guests present at the event included Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief; Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Zobaed Hossain, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports; Dr. Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, Director of IDMVS; Stephen Forbes, Country Director of the British Council; and Nayoka Martinez-Backstrom, Deputy Head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden. The welcome address was delivered by Khabirul Haque, Country Director of VSO Bangladesh.

Following a rigorous evaluation of numerous project proposals submitted from across the country in response to VSO Bangladesh’s call, a total of eight projects from eight divisions were selected for the Youth Climate Small Grant Award 2025. Among them, the only project selected from the Rangpur Division was “Gaibandha EcoCycle – Youth Innovation for Flood-Resilient Green Economy,” which will be implemented by Srijonshil Gaibandha.

The organization received this national recognition in acknowledgement of its youth-led, environment-friendly innovations, green initiatives, disaster preparedness efforts, and community-based climate adaptation activities in the climate-vulnerable areas of Gaibandha district. Its continuous efforts to engage young people in developing local climate solutions and expanding environmentally sustainable economic initiatives were highly appreciated.

During the award-giving ceremony, Md. Mehedi Hasan, Founder and President of Srijonshil Gaibandha, and Molla Arifa Rahman Nadi, Executive Member of the organization, were present.

Srijonshil Gaibandha stated that this achievement is not merely the success of a single organization, but a reflection of the collective strength and potential of the youth of Gaibandha and the communities affected by climate change. The organization believes that this recognition will serve as a strong motivation for undertaking more sustainable, innovative, and impactful climate-focused initiatives in the future.

আন্তর্জাতিক স্বেচ্ছাসেবক দিবস ২০২৫ উপলক্ষে ৮ ডিসেম্বর ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের নবাব নওয়াব আলী চৌধুরী সিনেট ভবনে অনুষ্ঠিত জাতীয় স্বেচ্ছাসেবক সম্মেলনে ইউথ ক্লাইমেট স্মল গ্র্যান্ট অ্যাওয়ার্ড ২০২৫ -এ বিশেষ স্বীকৃতি পেয়েছে গাইবান্ধার স্বেচ্ছাসেবী যুব সংগঠন সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা। দিবসটি উদ্‌যাপনের আয়োজন করে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইনস্টিটিউট অব ডিজাস্টার ম্যানেজমেন্ট অ্যান্ড ভালনারেবিলিটি স্টাডিজ (IDMVS) এবং Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) Bangladesh।

অনুষ্ঠানের উদ্বোধন করেন ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. নিয়াজ আহমদ খান। উপস্থিত ছিলেন দুর্যোগ ব্যবস্থাপনা ও ত্রাণ মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব মো. মোস্তাফিজুর রহমান, যুব ও ক্রীড়া মন্ত্রণালয়ের যুগ্মসচিব ড. শেখ মোহাম্মদ জোবায়েদ হোসেন, IDMVS-এর পরিচালক ড. মোহাম্মদ মনিরুজ্জামান খান, ব্রিটিশ কাউন্সিলের কান্ট্রি ডিরেক্টর স্টিফেন ফোর্বস এবং সুইডেন দূতাবাসের ডেপুটি হেড অব ডেভেলপমেন্ট কো-অপারেশন নায়োকা মার্টিনেজ–ব্যাকস্ট্রোম। স্বাগত বক্তব্য দেন VSO Bangladesh-এর কান্ট্রি ডিরেক্টর খবিরুল হক।

VSO Bangladesh-এর আহ্বানে সারা দেশ থেকে জমা পড়া অসংখ্য প্রকল্প প্রস্তাব মূল্যায়নের মাধ্যমে মোট ৮টি বিভাগ থেকে ৮টি প্রকল্পকে ইউথ ক্লাইমেট স্মল গ্র্যান্ট অ্যাওয়ার্ড ২০২৫ -এর জন্য নির্বাচিত করা হয়। এর মধ্যে রংপুর বিভাগ থেকে একমাত্র নির্বাচিত প্রকল্প ‘গাইবান্ধা ইকোসাইকেল বন্যা–সহনশীল সবুজ অর্থনীতির পথে যুব উদ্ভাবন’ (Gaibandha EcoCycle – Youth Innovation for Flood-Resilient Green Economy), যা বাস্তবায়ন করবে সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা।

গাইবান্ধা জেলার জলবায়ু–ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ এলাকায় যুব–নেতৃত্বাধীন পরিবেশবান্ধব উদ্ভাবন, সবুজ উদ্যোগ, দুর্যোগ প্রস্তুতি এবং কমিউনিটি–ভিত্তিক অভিযোজনমূলক কার্যক্রম বাস্তবায়নের স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ সংগঠনটি এই জাতীয় সম্মান অর্জন করেছে। স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে জলবায়ু সমাধান তৈরিতে তরুণদের সম্পৃক্ত করা এবং পরিবেশ–বন্ধব অর্থনৈতিক উদ্যোগ বিস্তারে তাদের ধারাবাহিক কাজ প্রশংসিত হয়।

অ্যাওয়ার্ড প্রদান অনুষ্ঠানে সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও সভাপতি মোঃ মেহেদী হাসান এবং কার্যনির্বাহী সদস্য মোল্লা আরিফা রহমান নদী উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা জানায়, এই অর্জন শুধু একটি সংগঠনের সাফল্য নয় গাইবান্ধার তরুণ সমাজ ও জলবায়ু–প্রভাবিত মানুষের সম্মিলিত শক্তি ও সম্ভাবনার প্রতিফলন। সংগঠনটির মতে, এই স্বীকৃতি ভবিষ্যতে আরও টেকসই, উদ্ভাবনী ও প্রভাবশালী জলবায়ু–কেন্দ্রিক উদ্যোগ গ্রহণে তাদের শক্তিশালী অনুপ্রেরণা হিসেবে কাজ করবে।
